Real-time preview while designing in Sketch (iOS & Android)

over 7 years ago from , Design at GitHub

Hi, guys! I'm sharing with you a project I've been working on last months.

I was missing an alternative to Sketch Mirror for Android when designing in Sketch, so I decided together with my friend Ivan to design our own tool.

We're currently looking for beta testers for both Android and IOS: http://mirapp.io

Hope you find it useful!

I use a plugin for Sketch that allows me to use Skala Preview. As someone who's never used Sketch Mirror, how does your app differ from Skala Preview?

Hi, Gabe! I've been using Skala for a while, my pain points were mostly:

      1. Bad quality images, I tend to design in 1x and my images were blurry for most of my testing devices.
      2. Copying to clipboard or executing a plugin every time you want to refresh the screen doesn't sound like a great idea while working every day.
      3. If Sketch team changes something in the API, you'll know as soon as possible and the auto updater will prepare everything for you. So you don't actually need to maintain or update a plugin inside Sketch.

      Cheers!

Thanks, this is a great reply that helped me understand the value of Mira vs. Mirror or Skala Preview. You might consider putting this somewhere on the site to help differentiate it from mirror (especially the Android support!)

Yeah, that's really important! I'll update the copy for now. We should launch a more elaborated site sooner or later, but I'm now focused on the product development side :)

Sketch Preview has the ability to display at 2× if you’re designing at 1×.

Thanks for the clarification on this Marc, I've been struggling with this for a while!

Even though, probably being able to show the expected size depending on different devices is more interesting rather than asking to the final user for that input.

Can you please clarify “being able to show the expected size depending on different devices”? I’m not sure what you mean by that. Thanks.

Yes, of course! I mean, showing the right image resolution depending on the screen requirements, without asking the user to setup it.

By the way, I'm sorry for my mistake about the quality of the image, I don't pretend to discredit your awesome work with Skala Preview. I've been using that many years when I was using Photoshop too :)
