When DN had new ownership and asked for feedback my suggestion to remedy such a problem was to act similarly to StackOverflow. So when you go to post a new topic and type out its title, you should automatically see a suggested list of topics that have already been posted containing the same keywords as your own title. That way it might deter people from posting the same topics twice or even thrice in some cases.

This seems to have been ignored so far?

That's definitely the best way to go about it, but I don't think DN has the technical capabilities to pull it off. They still couldn't get search right.

DN used to this under LayerVault. I guess the functionality broke in the recent redesign and it was never re-implemented. I would use the report function on duplicate articles, personally.

The duplicate detection system works just fine. I say hello to it every day. It's jsut that people don't care. It's always been like this.

Let's dispel this notion that OP doesn't know what they're doing, they know exactly what they're doing.

I think DN developers make a control in back-end software like Product Hunt system. If my post which I want to add is already added by somebody so it redirects me to that somebody's post.

Not always though. Just the other day I posted a link which later saw in the Stories posted by somebody else hours before me

Interestingly, duplicate posts with the URL checker completely side-step the Ask DN feature. Even though the title is exactly the same, the URL's post # is different, which allows it to pass through. A bit of a side topic I suppose, but interesting nevertheless.

Let a dupe get posted. Bump the first post, ignore the dupe.
