What's the thought process behind the " - + " under the about section? My first thought was that the " + " was going to make the font-size bigger. Didn't expect to show more information. I'd probably change the opacity of the " - " when everything is full collapsed. I really like the color palette.
Pretty much my thoughts too. Expanding to a couple more sentences is overkill in my opinion. Color scheme is very pleasant.
Struggled a bit with this concept, might have overthought it.
Originally, there were 7-8 different pieces of content revealed. I started thinking that was too many clicks, so I simplified (perhaps oversimplified) to 3 pieces.
I see both of your points about the balance between effort/content not being there. Guess I'll just need to get more interesting, so I can write more about myself. I appreciate the honest feedback.
BE. MORE. INTERESTING.
What up DN? Finally got the initial version of my portfolio up! Design was done by my good friend Chris Allen.
I plan on building it out more in the coming months, to include client work, more open source projects (that I need to hurry up and release), as well as some blog posts (that are eternally being edited/revised).
All the code for it is open source here. Highlights include a simple Node cron job that calls the GitHub public API every 5 minutes (to avoid rate limiting), to keep my project stars/forks reasonably up to date. As always, the frontend is completely custom - no libraries.
Beautiful work, man!
Awesome job. And uh... amazing set of open source work!
This is so pretty, I almost want to copy it for mine and change the colours! Great job, looks really good!!!
Favicons, Mike. Favicons!
I never thought the day would come Jeff - but I have to admit, you told me so haha.
I love that it loads in 185kb. So fast!
This looks really cool Michael! Love the colors. You might want to check your website on a landscape iPhone though. The logo is overlapping with your intro text.
Cheers!
Needed a lazy loader plugin..will be checking out Layzr.js. Thanks cavs!
I agree with the - + comments, but overall this site is beautiful.
Nice!
One thing that sprung out for me was the 'classy' colour palette kind of contrasts badly with the informal copywriting style. From a personal brand point of view I'd go one way or the other, whichever fits your style best.
Cool site! looks really nice.
by the way, what is a Design Technologist?
Basically, a frontend developer who's capable of extending existing design systems if need be, add meaning transitions/animations, etc. A developer with a decent sense of design.
Excellent! Both work & site design!
Just a detail: your absolute header-content overlap your logo on mobile landscape. (Flexbox could be an easy way to solve it and sorry for the responsive OCD)
Really good presentation of things that are sometimes hard to present visually.
I'd be keen to link your projects to their homepage sites as they're better visually than a GitHub repo. I realise you haven't made one for every project but the ones I've seen are really well done.
Typography, colours and overall balance of content is really good here. Not sure about the content toggle in the about section, but that might be personal preference.
Interesting point about linking to the project homepages David. If I get get the URL from the GitHub API (which I'd imagine I can) it's likely a change I'll make in the future. Thanks for the kind words!
Yep I'm pretty sure you can. I'm using GitHub Pages to host my open source site and it uses repo metadata to get the repo content, and I'm pulling in homepage urls on there daviddarnes.github.io
Nice work. Love the colors.
Nice and clean! Though the plus/minus in the About-section made no sense to me. Those icons are more commonly used in design patterns for zoom and/or size manipulation. Perhaps try using up/down arrows if you want to come off as more intuitive, rather than edgy?
Solid layout and KILLER color combo - Good work!!
I thought of Cleveland Cavaliers...and was disappointed when it wasn't.
This is super clean dude. Love the palette and overall tone (nice subtle highlights of personality). Cheers to wearing shorts whenever possible!
