Parallax header design with no repainting and a high frame rate. Pretty impressive.
Looks like they achieved it with 3d CSS transforms, and separate PNGs that have impressively low file sizes. I would guess because each layer mostly uses a single color.
Edit: For WebKit browsers on Linux and Windows, they also use this: https://github.com/simov/simplr-smoothscroll
It looks responsibly implemented except for the overall page weight (which is pretty much standard for a game site, I suppose). I don’t really like the pattern in principle, but this is such a lovely example of it, and it performed so well in this case.
What pattern don't you like?
Parallax Headers, I beleive.
Heavy parallax scrolling. It’s a neat animation technique (loved it in Sonic the Hedgehog for example) but on most websites it isn’t worth the bytes, and typically has performance issues.
Again, beautifully done here, for the most part.
Started the game, only a couple of hours in at the moment; the narrative is quite good albeit a tad linear. Colours & music are amazing. Just need to see if the gameplay holds up in the long run. All in all, a good game; especially considering it's their first release. Recommended!
I was amazed by the game, it was really exciting (and beautiful of course)! I finished it in 3,5 hours though, a couple of hours less then I expected.
OT: I have visited this site every now and then for a couple of years just because of the amazing parallax header. Didn't even know that it would be one the games I looked forwards to the must until about one month ago.
What kind of machine are you running it on? How is the performance? I've been tempted, but also don't want a crap experience either!
Playing it on a PS4; frame rate is decent even though there are some noticeable drops from time to time but that's to be expected for a first release. Nothing problematic in any case.
Beautiful. Bought immediately.
