Ask DN: Designers, how many coffees do you drink a day?
over 7 years ago from Aaron S, Product Designer
Thought I'd ask, why not... I drink around 2 a day. Seems to do it for me.

0, I quit a few years ago. I generally feel better. Although I did go overboard when I did drink it.
Zero. Never drank it and never will be interested in it.
Same. I think we're the only ones
I've switched almost entirely to tea (and often decaf). I found that coffee was making me anxious and jittery, and it turns out that the perceived increase in wakefulness is often the body's response to a caffeine deficit, brought about by having too much coffee.
I feel a lot better since switching. Maybe my system's just caffeine-sensitive, but I recommend everyone give it a shot for a week.
Did you experience any coffee withdrawal when you switched to tea?
Not after the first couple of days
Cut out caffeine almost completely and feel a lot better, since.
Daily average: 4
Usually one in the morning, and a decaf in the afternoon.
Whoa. I think I might've just learned something about myself, as this is a near-definitive list of foods I avoid. Would love to get tested now.
2–3 Espressi, one in the morning after the first daily standup, one after lunch. If I feel really tired another one in the afternoon or an espresso doppio in the morning.
Really cut back in comparison to a few years ago. I only drink good coffee now, because we have a ton of coffee roasters in the neighbourhood.
Too Much Information
Operate at about 1 tea per hour, most days are jump started with a double tea though.
Find tea delivers the same caffeine but much smoother, no way could I drink that much coffee in a day.
Same here. Coffee does not agree with my stomach at all, so I cut it out completely. But tea...I definitely drink some tea. Probably 3-4 cups a day. I've even got a tea podcast where I review teas, so I've managed to turn my habit into a creative outlet (and a small source of income).
Zero.
I find odd people saying that you don't "need" coffee. Of course you don't need it, it's not like food! If you are into coffee, and I mean good coffee (not Starbucks or supermarket coffee) it's a very similar experience to drinking wine or eating in a great restaurant. You taste and enjoy every drop of it.
I drink about two cups. I never seem to finish one though. I make an Aeropress cup when I get to work and again after lunch.
Zero coffee.
Although lately I've been addicted to zero calorie Monster energy drinks, which is definitely worse. Help.
Same. I try to only use them when I "need" them, such as when I'm tired and need to meet a deadline. The need comes too frequently :-(
One in the morning.
2 a day but I also want to lower my consume! :)
Maybe 1.
I cycle between Modafinil and Ciltep for focus, which works better.
I start with two large coffees at 6 in the morning. When i get to work i have another one and, after lunch, it varies between a large one o two small ones.
1 instant cup of coffee at breakfast 1 café con leche when I arrive at school 1 café con leche for every 2 lessons (3 in total)
So that's 5 coffees before 4 pm, and sometimes I have another if I go to a cafe later on.
Caffeine doesn't have much affect on me as I can notice, only time I noticed it was when I drank 2L of coffee in less than 1 hour, 4 hours later it felt like my heart was going to pop out of my body
I drink a lot of water during the day, I'm not sure if this evens out the caffeine effect?
1 cup of tea
4... litres.
Once I can see through time, I'm ready to go.
I went from 5 to 2-3. Lattes in the morning, short black in the afternoon when nap time hits me hard.
1 if I'm falling asleep at my desk. Otherwise, I try to not drink it too much.
Average 3 I think. Just brewed a fresh and foolish afternoon chemex
0, instead of drugging up, I take a 20-30 minute nap, and feel more energized than any coffee has ever made me. Also, no crash.
2-3, depending on the day and level of concentration needed. More coffee = more work, but unfortunately too much coffee = no work so the balance must be handled carefully. I think it's worth mentioning that I start each day with a Red Eye and go from there, so I've kind of given my caffeine tolerance the shaft.
I've cut way down; only drink 3 – 4 now. But I also have an energy drink, sometimes 2, in the afternoons. Still, it's better than the 20 – 30 I used to consume daily.
Wow...something between 3 and 10 (bazillions) cups. Yeah yeah, I play my life in hard mode.
But, deep down in my soul, I would like to stop. Cut the soda too, but I lack strength/determination.
Ever since the we switched from a Keurig machine to a coffee pot, the office average has increased to 3 cups / day. We suspect it's due to the lack of buffering between cups.
All of the coffees.
A couple decafs in the morning, caffeine is not my friend.
I love my coffee, I even have a home espresso machine that I love to experiment with. So usually I would drink about 2 or 3 cups a day, but lately I've been drinking more fruit smoothies, as I feel it's both healthier and gives me more energy, so now I usually just start the day with 1 cup and then drink a smoothie whenever I feel myself getting a little tired.
Either 1 breve latte or 1 americano with a shot of heavy cream in the morning. Tea, water, and a Coke Zero for the rest of the day.
If I make it myself, two cups (Aeropress Americano style). If I get coffee elsewhere, one strong latte will do the trick.
Between 2 and 4. The "mandatory" ones are one when I start working and one after lunch. And then sometimes one extra in the morning and/or the evening. In the morning it's either coffee with milk or americano, and after lunch espresso. And I don't add sugar nor sweeteners.
Used to drink like 8. Now I drink 0. You honestly don't need it.
One before noon
One or two cups before lunch because it gets me going in the morning. Although I have to admit I think is now more the habit than coffee itself.
Up to 3 espresso per day depending on how hard is life to me.
As many as it takes. Luckily, most days, that's zero. I find that if I start drinking coffee every morning (and I get very jittery from them), I end up needing them more the next day...more and more. So, less is more.
I drink 1 cup of coffee when its needed and 2 gallons of water a day. Water is the key.
2 gallons of water converts to 7.5 liters of water...
yup. I drank one gallon already and its only 2pm. I usually drink another gallon at the gym.
Your bladder game must be strong.
How do you manage to drink that much liquid? 1 gallon (3.75 litres) already sounds excessive. What are the health benefits?
None, it is actually harmful.
2 ~ 8. At least 1 at morning and 1 in afternoon. Coffee <3
Two. One in the morning, before starting to work and one in the afternoon, after lunch in case I feel kind of down and tired.
My average is 3:
2 when I get in the office and 1 after lunch.
Switched to earl grey tea and drink between 6-8 cups a day.
I take caffeine pills instead of coffee. Twice a day, 200mg.
This is very very sad to me
You get your caffeine from a drink, I take in the raw form. What does it matter?
Second, I am a competitive bodybuilder so it plays an important role in my supplement regime. I also will not sacrifice calories to a drink.
Last, if you drink a cup of coffee, it is around the same dosage per pill (in mG) so... that's a thing too.
The taste is a personal matter. But regarding the calories, you could drink espresso or americano without adding sugar or sweeteners; of course it's super bitter and not for everybody but personally I love the taste.
I enjoy the taste but I just don't do coffee often personally.
I also don't need to add 10 packets of sugar to enjoy it. Haha
TIL there is a competitive bodybuilder in our midst
This is more important.
Last, if you drink a cup of coffee, it is around the same dosage per pill (in mG) so... that's a thing too.
That's why I said that is sad to me. I'm Italian and I feel coffee as a pleasure.
Sometimes 4, sometimes 0. I can take it or leave it
Usually one after lunch, but I can go without.
A few years back, I couldn't function without a ton caffeine, but I made an effort to get rid of that addiction. It feels great to not need that cup of coffee in the morning to be ready for work. :)
