I think this might be more likeable by the people who hated the redesign when it first launched, hence why I'm posting so we can maybe discuss if this is an improvement. I think so. For one thing, the familiar orange is back and it feels like they're brought back some of the familiar branding elements from the previous design.
A particularly notable change is the fixed header, which is a pattern that is generally discouraged along with loading spinners and all that "bad" stuff (or so I thought)!
One thing that shocks me about this is that previous design overhauls have had a big blog post chronicling why various changes were made, but this one hasn't had one at all. I liked reading those, it gave some nice insight into why these changes happen.
I'm nitpicking here, but I feel that the squareness of the search bar seems kind of inconsistent with the rounded CSS-Tricks logotype and the search icon. Especially with the compact header which appears when scrolling down.
