Hey, just registered. Quick question...which time-zone are the hours displayed in? I'm assuming it's localised, but just checking...

Looks like a valuable service. You need to make it easier for advisors to share their profile. For example, don't redirect /people/username to /profile.

If anyone has any questions about CSS, design, poker, design tools, startups or whatever, I'll give you a 10 minute answer next week https://officehours.io/people/colmtuite

Yes—I've run into the same issue. We’ve noted this, and will correct it.

Thanks for becoming an advisor and offering up your experience/knowledge to others!

I would make the background image an SVG file or something. The background, and with that the text, is kind of blurry, and there's really no need for that, as this background image is perfectly suitable for a vector format, or is it not?

This is just a placeholder image and won’t be there for long. As such, we just tossed it in quickly, and put our focus on more important concerns.

Call quality, clear notifications, and easy session scheduling just took priority over a number of other details. (Plus, we wanted to launch and do live testing before polishing every area of the site.)

So, yes, we know the image on the homepage isn’t optimal. That said, it’s all in flux. Lots of changes underway. Meanwhile, this system—although seemingly simple—is pretty complex. As such, we need to prioritize certain issues over others.

Looks and feel interesting definitely going to try it out. You have a small bug with the modal box when requesting a session: It doesn't close when using the browsers back arrows.

Yes—that’s definitely a bug. I’ve noted it in our issue tracking, and we’ll correct it. :-)

I don't know if you noticed but it seems like the image isn't loading on the activate account email. You have an open issue tracker? Would be a better place to post things like this on :)

Yeah—I’ve spotted that one as well. I’m not sure why it’s happening (as there isn’t supposed to be an image there). That said, I know @shelkie is rebuilding all of our email messages/notifications, so I gather he’ll address this as he does so.

We’re using BugHerd for internal issue tracking, which helps us sort tasks and avoid duplicates. That said, if you run into any problems like the one above, perhaps post them here: http://chapp.is/Officehours. (It’s an open thread that allows us to view posts, and respond to them individually).

I wanted to share this with the DN community—it’s something we’re pretty excited about. In short, it allows you to give/get 10 minutes of one-on-one advice for free.

We just soft-launched, last week, so there's a lot of work to be done. That said, we already have some great advisors on board (most of them design-focused) and initial feedback seems positive.

Feel free to drop by and check it out. BTW: I’ve answered some common questions here: http://blog.officehours.io/this-is-officehours/

Very clean design. I did get a bit frustrated trying to figure out what the site was about, however, until I saw your blog post commented here. I don't think I would have figured it out on the site.

I'd also suggest getting that hero image to be live text if you can, or at the least put the text into an alt tag. Right now the huge welcome message is essentially invisible if you can't see the image (SEO, screen readers, etc.)

Yes—we need to work on this more.

We already have a more explanatory homepage comped; however, we just haven’t gotten to building it out, yet. (We’ve put all of our effort into making the service more stable, improving notifications, and all the other critical mechanics of the service.) That said, I assure you, we’re working on this. Additionally, we’re looking at producing a 30 second video that succinctly explains the service—for those who’d rather watch than read.

The embedded text will be replaced as well. Again, what you currently see in place is a bit of a stop-gap measure. We wanted to launch early, and get some real sessions happening—as these are the most critical parts for users. However, as we continue to get that working more seamlessly, we find more time to work out all of those additional concerns.

For the record, we currently have 113 issues tagged in our issue tracking system. So, many issues are identified—now it’s largely a matter of prioritizing concerns and finding time to correct these points. :-)

I have visited the site and have absolutely NO idea what it's about. Looked trough several pages and eventually found the About page. Not very clear to find.

It looks cool but that doesn't really help when I have no idea what it's about in the first place.

D'oh. I just blatantly missed the "About" link in the footer. I could have found it after all.
