There's no Users section on DN;

8 years ago from , http://meet-cristian.com

DN is full of awesome people but there is currently no way to get a full picture of the community, see what the product designers are currently working on, find a python dev to ask about a problem you're loosing sleep over, see who else is from the same country and what they are posting. We could find collaborators or people to follow on twitter.

I think a section listing everyone on DN, with useful filters, would be a great adition.

However, I am aware that DN got a lot of things right and making changes could upset the balance and negatively impact the community.

What do you think?

    I think I wouldn't want to be one entry in a list made to be browsed swiftly. That is the opposite of community interaction.

    There's also inherent danger to listing things like that. I know I don't want my professional contact infos to appear in a page where you can look up hundreds of them. It's a magnet for undesirable recruiters and spam email. Is it worth that cost?

    Maybe having a few key links in our user cards (hover on someone's name) would be a good balance.

    I don't know, I think I'm opposed to DN being a list of designers. We have way too many of these already, and it's very clear that they don't foster a lot of constructive interaction.

    Personally I think that the network is emergent in seeing names against contributions and comments, and that we don't need an aggregated view. A lot of what works here works because of the focus.

    If this does happen, I'd like a way to opt out of being listed.

    DN could use a few more social features (user search in particular), but shouldn't become a full-fledged social network.

    I don't think anyone wants DN to become like latter-day Forrst.

    Also, it would be very nice to search and group by companies :)

    Yep. It's really hard to connect and get to know people without having at least a link to a portfolio or a Twitter account (like Dribbble does, for example). That would be very easy to implement and it would solve a huge part of the problem.

    As a designer that work at home and mostly with programmers and project managers, I'd love to have more designer friends :)

    P.S. By the way, I'm at Dribbble and Twitter @ilustrebob.

    I think it'd be cool to have a few more options regarding user info. I would love to see where the DN community is located on the world map, a link to their portfolio (which I would imagine is limited to a certain comment/karma threshold to avoid spam,) among other things.

    At the same time, I don't think DN should become a full-fledged social network.
