Affinity Photo Launches (affinity.serif.com)

Perfect Timing. I was just testing the latest beta and wondering when this was going to come out. Affinity Designer has been amazing since I started using it and this looks like it's going to be just as good. I've been using Photoshop CC for the past two weeks and it feels so sluggish compared to these apps. The only thing I need now are Smart Objects.
I just bought Affinity Designer. I love Sketch for UI work, but I find it lacking for detailed vector work (especially icons). Is there anything missing in Affinity Designer, for you? Any tips?
The things I miss in AD that are in Sketch are some of the plugins, but the vector math calculations for object (Union, Exclusion, Intersection, etc...) seems to be a lot better in AD. I also like Sketches page workflow better for projects. It seems like a good way to keep multiple design concepts for a project in one place that is easy to naviaged. That being said, Sketch is still my goto for assets because I use it a lot for its export rendering of @_x assets. Now I try to design my mobile UI's where I can use vectorized pdf's and both programs solve that challenge.
Good to know — thanks. Sounds pretty much as I expected. I think I'll probably go to Affinity Designer for intricate vector work, but stick with Sketch for UI work.
Any link to the beta? I want to test this too.
Unfortunately, the beta program is over: https://affinity.serif.com/en-us/beta-download/
Purchased. Looking forward to where this goes. They have gradient maps!
I'm sold
No Windows version on the horizon?
Well, judging by the last container of the promo-page I’d say: no. Not in the near future.
I mostly just ask for the lols at this point ;)
Seems like there isn't based on their feature section. Windows doesn't even support a lot of the functionality that they are touting. Unfortunately, this launch seems to be in line with a lot of the graphics tools being launched recently like Sketch, and Affinity Designer.
Does anyone know if mov files can be imported and edited like in Photoshop? Is there a timeline for gifs?
Love to see someone taking a shot at Photoshop. As a photographer it's nice to see options.
AP is really impressive, as is AD. I wonder if Affinity has a DTP (ala InDesign) app planed to complete the Adobe replacement.
I think it's supposed to be called Affinity Publisher. Beta drops first half of 2016 according to dev.
They do.
That sound slit throats make in kung-fu movies, "a sound like wailing winter winds?" That's the sound of Photoshop.
I purchased this the moment I saw it hit the app store, I've been using the beta for two or three months now it's really good.
I've never really felt like anything else came close to Photoshop before. Affinity Photo, on it's first release, already feels like it's coming close and in some ways it surpasses Photoshop. Photo is now my new editor of choice and I can't wait to see what they do with it next.
Would you say Affinity Photo is better than Pixelmator?
I would say that depends on who the user is.
For a professional or someone who isn't intimidated by a complex feature set and interface absolutely, it's a more powerful app with a much better workflow and UI.
For someone who isn't a professional but still wants to have some powerful features I think Pixelmator is a better choice, it's simpler, more approachable for most things it's got that killer iPad app.
For me, Affinity Photo is a far better tool and I haven't opened Pixelmator or Acorn since I started using it. I'm very familiar with Photoshop though and I've been using Affinity Designer for a while so Affinity Photo felt comfortable for me from the start.
Thanks for the information :)
No trial? Would rather see how this compares to LR before I throw down my money.
Competition is good. Especially at this price.
Adobe... Ruh roh...
Great. Now let's wait and see Affinity Publisher turns out and how fast people will leave adobe behind.
Oh! Didn't know they're working on something similar to InDesign? Adobe should seriously be worried...

They have some more details about it scattered throughout their forums but if it's as fast as the other two, I will definitely throw ID out.
Their site says 2015 — but a recent post on their Twitter feed says some time in 2016. I cannot wait to ditch Adobe.
im hanging out for Publish. its going to be the clincher for me as i do a load of publication layouts. so keen though, already have designer and photo now. Go Affinity!
Looks rad. A gamechanger.
Such a fantastic website. Does anyone know what library they're using for the mobile menu? (if any)
I'll definitely be purchasing AP. Their Affinity Designer app is amazing.
Looks like some basic css and transitions. I don't think there using any special menu lib.
Looks like a custom job. But if you're looking for code samples: http://tympanus.net/Development/FullscreenOverlayStyles/ is very similar.
Nice, thanks for the tip!
