My Dribbble debut is my design for this month's Net Magazine Design Challenge — Good Grub.

    Well, I'm not as emphatic about the color as the other commenter. You've got a hella strong orange and a hella strong green which are competing with one another. You should have one color clearly dominant so the user can easily understand what the primary clickable areas are.

    Also, you have what seems to be a very light ground to situate your design on, but then we have a super dark grey for smaller action panels and a really dark background image. I would suggest you pick a theme, either light or dark and try to maintain that. Using a really light background and then pasting really dark elements over top creates a very busy look.

    Overall, just too much going on. Simplify, boil it down to a super minimal base structure and reserve impact for only the most important areas of the page. You can apply the 80/20 rule here, 20% of the page should hold about 80% of the impact, the other 80% of the page should be dialed back to appear as a minimal 20% impact. Your design currently feels like every element is trying to scream importance.

    Great start though, keep posting those shots.

      I really appreciate the detailed feedback, thanks for taking the time to reply.

      I understand your concerns with the colour choices, esentially having 2 primary colours. I wanted to have each action be owned by a colour, so finding your nearest 'Good Grub' would be orange themed, and the collection/delivery section green. Perhaps in a real scenario I would know which would be the most common action, and could define a primary colour for it.

      Good point about having a dark and light theme, and if I was to do this again I'd definitely take this on board.

    I'm not really a fan of the presentation. On Dribbble ( anywhere else for that matter ) it's very important to have a flawless one.

    Also I can see you didn't used any grid systems or aligned some of the elements. You should pay more attention to that.

    The fonts and sizes are not the best choice, I recommend looking up "how to pair fonts" even though you might know how to do that. A fresh reminder and seeing the best practices doesn't hurt!
