I love the fact that it's a bunch of little changes and details that vastly improve the overall system. Also, it's great to be able to peek a little bit into the workings of a company like FB. Thanks for sharing! And great work!
Here's what the left-brainers have to think about such a well though-out and through design process:

Some gems:
"In real life no one will notice the difference. And the favicon is now flat without a bevel. That would have taken about 10 minutes. Seems like a lot of work for nothing in the wordmark change."
"Do minuscule changes like these actually have any impact with users?"
Ahhhhh the classic child-like self-centeredness of the Silicon Valley brogrammer. The attitude often rears its ugly head when the brogrammer is confronted with a discipline outside of their own. Here is the translation:
"I've never thought about this before. Since it's not something I think about, it must be worthless. I'm sure everybody feels exactly the same way."
I enjoyed the section on sub-branding and not baking in the “F” logo into sub-brand logos.
Fascinating stuff! This specific case study is going to resurface in my head every time I work on another branding project.
@Peter, launched the new site earlier this year. Still a work in progress, lots I want to add yet—both work and feature wise.
Site looks marvelous Ben! And I loved the process post. Thanks for sharing!
Very robust and inspiring.
'Tools, not rules' is a great direction for implementing brand identities. Done enough brand guidelines at this point to know the rules will always be broken and unenforceable.
Really enjoyed this write up! A brand cleanup in such a huge organisation and well used service is no small feat. Executed really well!
This is excellent. Top stuff. Thank you!
this is awesome!
Great read. Tightening up brand collateral for a large company like Facebook is no joke.
Really like the photos of the new glyph in random places and formats (book spine, soda can, pizza box!); speaks volumes to the versatility of going one-color.
Hey Ben, this is fantastic.
Nice job documenting this, Ben!
Good stuff Ben. When did you update from DFF?
