Now that CloudApp has a much more strict free plan (the 10 files limit now resets monthly instead of daily), do you guys have a free — or cheaper — instant upload service to recommend?
I'd love something that uses Dropbox API but is as convenient as CloudApp or Droplr — by that I mean an app that outputs a share link by dropping files in the OS X menu bar.
I've really been liking https://infinit.io for the past few months. Ongoing devs with a nice support and great interaction and usage of the menubar app.
They use P2P technology to fasten the transfer, which works really nice if you're on the same network. The option to automatically upload screenshots is also present.
Have been beta testing the iOS app also, which is also pretty good for photos.
Another vote for Dropshare. It connects with Amazon S3, Rackspace of your own server, has built in screenshot and screen capture features, a companion iOS app, customized landing page support for the files you share and more.
I'm voting for Dropshare also, I use this along with infinite.io. Those two are me pretty much sorted! :)

Screenshots are uploaded instantly like Cloudapp. And the web view actually works on retina screens ;)
You can also grab a link to any file by selecting it in the finder and using the shortcut CMD + U. It gives you the link right away.
Oh yeah, and it's free!
I'm looking for alternatives too. http://minbox.com/ looks nice but a bit more complex than CloudApp.
I'm wondering what if I host a https://owncloud.org on my shared hosting...

Minbox looks beautiful, but the Pro plan price is kinda scary. I'd like try a service that the pricing is reasonable enough in case I want to grab the Pro plan.

I agree, but I'm disappointed with the UI of the app! In particular the menubar icon. Yes, I'm petty like that.

It’s trivially easy to get links with Dropbox. When you throw a file in your Dropbox, you can grab a link right from the menu bar app, like this.
I even have an “Outbox” folder in my dock that I use specifically for CloudApp-like “quick sharing”. I drag a file in there, then just grab the link from the menu bar app, like this.
All that said, I know the drag-and-drop simplicity of Droplr and CloudApp is really nice. I’m thinking about working on my “Outbox” folder some more such that there’s a script that automatically generates links for files dropped into that folder—I’ll be sure to post it on DN if I ever work on such a thing!

Dropbox public folder is what I use for my publicly shared files
Does the public folder still exist? I thought Dropbox got rid of it. At least, I don't have it anymore.

Yeah it still exists and works just fine.
I've been using Skitch (tied with your Evernote account). Specifically good for image sharing and when you need the raw image link.
