Is there a simple animation software that I can use on my macbook air for animation?
I need something lightweight. I need it for simple interaction designs (Like material design / prototype animations).

Agreed. When I came onboard at my current company, I was shocked to see how often the design team used Keynote. After a few times trying it myself for prototyping, I'm sold.

Sure, you can drag & drop images onto the canvas. There's a full suite of drawing tools inside the app too.
Hi Colm, This is great. Ability to easily add states to individual elements is something that I wanted to have from the days of moving away from Fireworks. After seeing your demo video, I think Plexi does it in a simple manner.
Would love to be part of the beta.
Also, on a side note, what kind of technologies does one use to build something like this in-browser? JavaScript? (I'm not much of a technical person.. just a curious question)

Yep, it's mostly Javascript. We're using Javascript to store all the properties for each state, then render/update them as we need to.

Not as elegant/minimal as Sketch, but pretty powerful.
I played with it a bit. It was very nice and seemed liked it solved some pain points around AfterEffects. I did notice that it would not mask a video (like rounding corners, etc.) - it could be that I did not play with it long enough.

For me:
I think it depends how far you want to take things before the code is written. I like working out animation just enough to get things happening in code, then timing can be changed there.
Check out Adobe Edge Animate.
I think Pixate is good for this.
Been wondering this myself. Came across this article.
Animate in Keynote. Then, export as a Quicktime video and make it a gif via Photoshop.
And I can vouch for Keynote. You can actually do much of the proper design work in it because you can customize the slide sizes and whatnot.
