I'm looking for a solution to create nice looking .dmg installers. I don't have any experience here, so any information would be appreatiated.

Is there a specific reason you’re going for a DMG? ZIP files with a single app inside doesn’t let you create artwork, but are a far nicer (and less confusing) experience, imo.
Yeah, I suggested the zip route, but the DMG is being specifically asked for by the client.

Depending on the target audience, being able to tell the user to drag the App into the Applications folder could be a useful step.
Sure, but if you’re using DMGs, then you also have to explain how to mount and unmount a disk image, which is harder than dragging an app to your Applications folder (and the app can ask the user and move the app itself).
