solid
I freakin' love the art direction of FKA Twigs' stuff.
Thumbs up to Jai Paul.... ugh best album of that year.
I like you.
Jai Paul <3
What's the name of the artist for the first album? Can you list the artist names for each album? I like discovering new music.
The Dismemberment Plan - Emergency and I Great album!
Here's a few off the top of my head. Basically everything that Björk and M/M Paris have collaborated on. Also other's that came to mind are Joy Division‘s Unknown Pleasures, Tycho’s Awake, Nine Inch Nails’ The Fragile, Mark Ronson’s Record Collection and Miles Davis’ Bitches Brew.
I knew someone would mention Tycho's Awake. I love that album
Anything from Jamie xx (cause they all look the same except for the colours)
Clark- Clark
Any of The Smiths' albums but especially their first one
New Order's Substance
Ditto on Clark; almost included it myself.
Jamie xx are my favourite, it's a great play on The XX cover.
Yea I love those Jamie xx covers!
In fact I made a little site dedicated to them: http://winkervsbecks.github.io/jamieXX
Some of my favorite albums in here!
I love the Jon Hopkins' cover (and it's one of my favourite album)
Great selection. Those FlyLo records were fantastic.
Caretaker! Love that record.
I'm a big jazz guy, so here are a few of my favorites! I'm a sucker for big type and strong composition. And I'm a big fan of Reid Miles' work.
Some great ones in here already. I went through and grabbed just a few.
Darkside
Melodys Echo Chamber
Unknown Mortal Orchestra
Great ones. What are they?
The second one is Melody's Echo Chamber eponymous album
Darkside! very nice
To avoid repeats of others here are some more:
M83 - Dead Cities, Red Seas, & Lost Ghosts
Stars of The Lid - And The Refinement of Their Declien
Wolf Parade - Apologies To The Queen Mary
Deftones - White Pony
Fuck Buttons - Slow Focus
DJ Shadow - Entroducing
Interpol - Turn On The Bright Lights
Animal Collective - Merriweather Post Pavilion
My Bloody Valentine - Loveless
The Twilight Sad - Fourteen Autumns & Fifteen Winters
I'd also highly recommend checking out Michael Cina's work. He does a ton of album art for artists signed to Ghostly International/Spectral. - http://cinaart.com/
WHITE PONY FOREVER
damnit was hoping somebody wouldnt beat me to the Animal Collective cover!! :)
Can't believe nobody's mentioned this great one:
I tend to buy lots of LPs, sometimes on how good the cover art is. Mostly in the psych + metal genres. Some recent faves:
- in order of appearance - - Goat - World Music - Gnod & White Hills - II - Mount Kimbie - Cold Spring Less Fault Youth - Liars - Mess _(their instagram feed is very on brand) - Yob - Clearing the Path to Ascend - Emeralds - Does it Look Like I'm Here?
Second-to-last is rad!
(Just look at that face!)
(Something about this album cover just is so sweet and encapsulates the album incredibly well.)
My favorite album cover of all time.
title
I'm sure I'm forgetting some favorites, but here are a few that come to mind:
Pink Floyd's The Dark Side of the Moon. It's ubiquitous, but it's ubiquitous for a reason.
Daft Punk's recent Random Access Memories. Simple and iconic.
Explosions in the Sky's Those Who Tell the Truth Shall Die, Those Who Tell the Truth Shall Live Forever. Tactile, innocent — color, shape, framing are all spot on. Perfect fit for subject matter.
Sigur Rós' ( ) album. The packaging of this thing was great too.
Definitely Ghost in the Machine by The Police
I love the "hidden" image.
I'm gonna need a hint on this one.
I did too; never knew what to make of this until I just looked it up. It's the faces of the 3 band members, each with their particular hairstyle. Sting had spiky hair back then.
Mothership Connection (Parliament)
Cheap Thrills (Big Brother & The Holding Company)
Since i'm totally fan of post-rock / math-rock and here may 3 awesome favorite album cover
Some really great ones here, nice post!
so many good ones here. I'll throw in my $.02
Whether you knew it or not the other three are all by Leif Podhajsky. Look into his work if you haven't seen it!
Yeah, I linked it as the first thing I said. ;)
Hell yes for Teebs.
What is it with you people?! “Favorite” = one. :D
Such a great question, because so much of the opinion on the album cover depends on your opinion of the album.
I pick Local Native’s ‘Hummingbird’ because A) this photo just puts me on edge! B) I can’t get enough of this album.
Anything Storm Thorgerson
Taipei city on a guitar :)
Hard to beat all the album art for Circa Survive, done by Esao Andrews
Pretty much everything at: http://www.projectthirtythree.com/
The ones below I like because I also like the music by the artists:
One of my favorites is this Modest Mouse cover, solely for the logo on the front. What a great symbol!
So much Great stuff came out of Decoder. http://ww.thedecoderring.com/portfolio/packaging/?id=32602&p=1
Epik High's got some awesome artwork.
:D
Hüsker Dü's Warehouse Songs and Stories
A lot of great choices here. In terms of more recent albums, I really love Andy Stott's Luxury Problems.
I've always loved Le Carousel. Great album, great cover. It just screams at me to play it :)
Here's my collection • https://www.pinterest.com/r2k/awesome-album-covers/
Portugal. The Man's Devil Say I, I Say Air
My favourite *cover designer: jack vanzet
I could be biased (Justice is one of my favorite artists).
Also, Cerulean by Baths
I'm not cool like you guys and I can't figure out how to get my images to appear here, but I think Pretty Lights' album art work is pretty incredible.
