Ask DN: How can I get an invite on Dribble?

I'm just getting in to UI/UX Design. Putting together my online portfolio on Bechance and I'm aware that Dribbble is also a very prominent platform for designers to showcase their work. Is there anything specific that can be done to get an invite?

    I would argue that while it's a nice place to show off your work, a portfolio (not on Behance or Dribbble) might be a better option. It gives you more control over what you're presenting.

    For example, when I am judging a UX candidate, I would rather see them invested in creating a deep portfolio filled with case studies and information about how they thought through a design.

    For purely a UI designer, dribbble might be a bit more appealing, but I still look to the portfolio to see how they sell themselves when they are given control over the entire site (and not just a small picture).

      Thank you very much for that Jason I actually didn't see it that way at all. Come to think of it the freedom of illustrating the design process from start to finish is much more appealing.

      I disagree. I've had a portfolio site longer than I've had a dribbble profile and I've received many more work requests via dribbble. There are a lot more people viewing dribbble than personal portfolios because they are difficult to find. There's no way you're going to rank high enough on google to be found if you're just launching a personal site. I'm not saying that you shouldn't have a portfolio but I think it's better when paired with Dribbble or Behance account.

        That's fair. You're right in that it's a good way to put yourself out there (blind-firing a website doesn't get you anywhere unless you do something that makes you famous).

        I agree that it should be paired with a portfolio, though. I would feel hesitant about a candidate that just uses Dribbble/Behance to show off UX projects.

        Yea that's the whole point. I don't want to use Dribbble as my primary source for displaying work but at the same time I know its where many people go to browse and look so I feel being there will help me maintain a good profile.

    You can sign up to Dribbble as a prospect and have a link to your portfolio or any sort of site where potential drafters can look at your work.

    I have a bunch of invites and I often browse the prospects looking for good looking portfolios. You could also join sites like draft.im that allow you to submit shots to try and impress potential drafters.

    One last suggestion would be to browse the site for recently invited members (Debuts Section or shots tagged with "invite") because when you get drafted, you get some invites to give away. Looking through the shots tagged with "invite" could also lead to people that are doing little contests to give away invites.

    Dribbble is not really for portfolios. This is a platform for designers helping designers. Giving feedback to one another.

    Well, I have a profile at dribble, https://dribbble.com/pedro_designer I was invited by a designer on the community, he was going through some portfolios and he choose mine. Try searching for dribble invites at dribble and twitter, you may found something.
