Ask DN: What are you proud of?

over 8 years ago from , Software Designer

Maybe the fact that you're an autodidact, you learnt everything by yourself. Maybe you achieved more than your peers. Maybe you are part of a great team. Maybe all of these or maybe something else.

There are plenty of reasons to be proud of. I'm curious, what are yours.

I'm proud that I have begun breaking down walls and leaving my insecurities behind. I was afraid to share my work publicly because of copyright and fear of scrutiny. But after showing my work online and really getting plugged into the design community I have torn down so many walls.

I love technology and always wanted to be a part of that. I was afraid of exploring UI design, and even more afraid of exploring code. I'm still exploring code, but I left college behind and pursued my passion. I now work at a great job and feel so complete. It's a great feeling and I aspire to help others in any way that I can.

Striking out into a new industry, learning what I thought would be the most difficult (code), making the most of opportunities presented to me, and above all never letting what I know limit what I imagine or produce.

Learning quickly and independently. I know there's still tons I need to learn/master, but I'm still proud that I was able to become a useful member of an awesome product design team just 3 years after starting freelance when I was 17.

There's wonderful success stories all over the design community like woah.

Taking a leap in the dark when choosing to do what I love instead of doing what I studied for for 5 years. So far so good :)
