I remember seeing the New Yorker around the house growing up and I always thought it was stuffy and elitist. Recently subscribed and I find it to be a refreshing oasis. I guess I'm getting old.
I don't get it. Is it related to some American news event?
Yes, it is pertaining to American news. As is a lot of the "New Yorker's" magazine issues. It's referring to the racial divide currently happening (even more than what it typically has been) because of the Ferguson case.
Thanks, I'll look into this ferguson thing.
I think he was joking unless there is no coverage outside the States
News coverage on it is surprisingly low here in Belgium (I assume in the rest of Europe too)
I'm currently in Germany and there's quite a lot of coverage. I think it depends where you are.
