Replace Helvetica with Source Sans in Yosemite (github.com)

It looked really awesome! Until I tried to open Chrome, which, unfortunately, never opened.
Second that.
Third that :(
I was really optimistic about trying this, until I read your comment. No Chrome = No Source Sans. Sad Panda :(
I've gotten reports of that, but can't reproduce it- maybe because I'm using Chrome Dev? Can anyone please give me the version number you have and what if any error message you get?
Version 38.0.2125.111.

Thanks.
Bug confirmed for versions .38 and .39 Version .40 dev seems to work fine. I'm not sure how to solve this...
Kemie, sorry for delay - I gladly installed Chrome Dev! (40.0.2209.0 dev (64-bit)) This did not help, unfortunately (Chrome still shuts down immediately with error).
For the record, I tried 1) removing settings from ~/Library/Application Support/Google/Chrome and 2) re-installing Chrome Dev with AppCleaner. Nothing helped, sadly. It opens "Set as default browser" window but then quits.
The font looks so totally awesome, though! Makes me want to switch to Safari. Eh. Couple of bugs: http://files.vladstudio.com/screenshots/lyzgijip5x.pnghttp://files.vladstudio.com/screenshots/ocushtxr1n.png Detailed report, if it helps: http://pastebin.com/e7iThedt
I'm stumped as to why it's working for me then. And I have no clue how to fix it. Sorry! :(
Helvetica Neue is way better than Source Sans. Always.
Not for UI, IMHO. But we can agree to disagree :)
I replaced mine with Input Mono and I'm liking it a lot.
Input Mono? That's interesting. Do you mind posting a screengrab of how it looks?
That's so odd — it looks like a modern System 6.
I'm liking it more and more everyday. I don't have a Retina screen so Helvetica didn't look that great.
Silly question, but why would you want to replace it?
What happens if you try to use Helvetica in InDesign or something with this hack in use? Because that would be a dealbreaker for me.
Absolutely nothing. Your regular Helveticas are still there and work as usual in any context except as system font.
Is there not a 'Helvetica' on your system that is actually Source Sans though? Or does that simply not appear alongside all of your regular fonts?
On my system, there's just one helvetica (&Neue), and it's the regular one. Not 100% sure how the replacement works at a system level, but on a practical one, it just does :).
This replaces a font in /Library/Fonts, which is the directory usually only used for OS and Applications purposes. When you are working in InDesign and choosing fonts for your design, you are usually using fonts from ~/Library/Fonts (/Users/USERNAME/Library/Fonts).
The descenders are a bit screwed in spotlight, but interesting to see the technique.
Yeah more wonky stuff happening in Finder, for instance in the information panel. Also the username's baseline in top right corner is too low.
Something I whipped up because I'm not really a fan of Helvetica. Not very thoroughly tested, but seems to work well.
So.. what if I already have Source Sans installed?
NVM.. I'm a noob. Just noticed the different names.
Only odd thing i've noticed so far: http://prntscr.com/53lu4v Username is not aligned well on menu bar
