This is really cool. There's going to be a day not too far from now where exporting assets one by one is going to be archaic and cumbersome. This is leading the way and I can't wait to see how it inspires other changes in the way we do things.

This is really a handy feature, I'll give you that. Now, if only it could do something which is built in Sketch or for which we have to use tools like PNG Express - exporting a single item in multiple sizes, both for iOS and Android.

I'm a Layervault user and I went through the documentation, but it's pretty slim with regards to explaining the Assets feature and the control thereof.

Any insight into plans to expose this approach outside of LayerVault Public sites? Like a sweet library or APIs? I love the concept but most situations I find myself in don't allow me to use LayerVault for hosting assets/mocks.

Definitely. The Public Sites stuff is just a certain short-hand that we've developed to make things more maintainable and human-readable.

For any public-facing asset, you can just add ?raw=1 to the end of what you're looking at to get the raw output of a preview or an asset. We'll document that in more detail soon.

Seems pretty sweet, but i'd adjust your demo. This isn't something you'd actually do within a website since in the middle of the demo they say it's smart enough to know i don't want the text of the button. If there is no text then we're just placing a blank button as an image tag with no way to overlay text on top.

TL;DR Awesome concept. Poor demo of concept.

    Rockon!

Brandon, thanks for the feedback. You're right, I should have used used a background-image property in this example. I'll tweak it in a future version of this video.

Looks cool! How do you handle compression? What options are available (i.e transparency settings). How quick is it? If it's pulling directly from a .psd, I'd imagine speed is going to be an issue.

We use relatively normal default compression. That is to say: we avoid it for now.

The options will get carried over from the layers/groups themselves. If a layer is transparent, so will the resulting image.

The whole process is pretty quick, since everything can be parallelized on our service. We've invested a lot of time in rendering PSDs quickly. Things are usually ready to go within a few seconds.

Quick Q based off the demo example: Is "Button.png" just the layer or group name inside of "Mockup.PSD"? Or is something specific you set inside of LayerVault?

*Disclaimer: I don't use LayerVault, so I may be missing something important here on how it knows what "Button.png" is.

"Button.png" is the name of either a layer or a group within a Photoshop document. Renaming the layer or group to end in ".png" exposes it for use in the lv_asset tag.
