Some of Google's new designs are starting to roll out (googlesystem.blogspot.co.nz)

I noticed this when I went into google docs the other day.
The one thing about the new Google design direction that is bugging me are the proportions. Text and icons seem just a tad too small and fragile in comparison to their containers. The resulting effect is that I have to focus more on the text to read it. It's subtle, bit sticks out to me every time. Do you have the same reaction?
Maybe that's a feature and not a bug? There is a certain point where the reading experience becomes too easy, and retention is lost.
It might also be a style decision. Unique proportions can give the UI character without introducing new elements. Not sure, just feels off to me.
Folders don't show up in the main list for some reason.
