I've been getting this question frequently from other web designers who use Windows, so I thought I would share it here.
To fix bad font rendering/anti aliasing issues on Chrome you just need to do the following:
Type in chrome://flags
Enable DirectWrite
Restart browser
Happy typographing!
If I do this. I may design or do something that others don't. I always preffer the standard base installation options.
I think this is an inherent problem when designing for the web in general; different browsers, different versions, different settings.
At least this way I can view websites the way they were intended to be viewed. I think a good solution to this problem is for Google to turn it on by default, if there are no ill-effects.
By the way: I don't find the DirectWrite. I have it in spanish, so the whole flags is translated. But, if you can refer me the #name it will be useful to search.
this helps me, but does not help my users. anyone know when this will be enabled by default?
Hey Jim, you can force your users browser to use svg version of your fonts instead of eot. See this article.

According to this ticket, DirectWrite text rendering should be enabled by default in Chrome 37: https://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=25541
This change has already been made in Chrome Canary. Instead of having a setting for "Enable DirectWrite", it has one for "Disable DirectWrite."
Tell Google to do it for me.

I have encountered a bug where non-English letters just disappear until I restart Chrome. Other than that. nothing.
Fonts in the Google search engine results pages looked uber condensed for me, and some web fonts were looking at bit funny, however most were looking much cleaner and nicer on the eye

To fix poor rendering on Chrome, especially when importing webfonts, place the svg declaration BEFORE the woff declaration in your css.
Chrome is more sexy using svg fonts.
