This is fantastic. Instantly replaces WhatFont.
Not bashing this at all, but I'm genuinely curious to know what this does better than WhatFont? It looks great, but WhatFont also provides leading, color, etc.
I feel like I'm missing something :)
Thanks for the feedback. WhatFont is a really useful tool. With Type Sample I've tried to automate some things that always found myself doing, as well identify font.
Type Sample lets you type in your own text, change the size, and save an image of what you type. Were you able to do that successfully?
Also, as often as we can, Type Sample will tell you the actual name of the font and link to the foundry/service (Webtype, Typekit, Hoefler, etc).
Pleasantly surprised to see you supporting extra foundries. My site uses a bunch of Hoefler fonts and my mind was all "let's see this shit work on my site". And then it did. Very well.
Well played sir!
Great! We're definitely trying to support foundries big and small. I really want to make that feature of it better and better.
Instant install, great work!
Unrelated but wanted to say the design of the new Digg and the reader is great, use top stories every day (always wondered who designed it!)
Thanks, Murat. Glad to hear it.
Thanks, Allan for adding Type Sample. Very excited to launch this.
This is unbelievably cool! LOVE IT!
Very cool! It's fun to dig around websites and quickly see the fonts they use and save them for later.
It IS fun. Glad you like it, Artem.
This is awesome!
How does it save images of the type? Client-side or server-side?
Great work! Only request would be an immediate close option. Adding colour and leading similar to WhatFont would be a bonus. WhatFont bookmarklet hasn't been launching reliably for me recently so thanks for an alternative!
Thanks for the feedback, Aaron. Not the first request I've heard for seeing color. There's no close button right now, but ESC key will close it.
Absolutely something I've been needing. Fantastic work!
One thing though is the type sample looks a bit fuzzy on my Retina Mac. I assume you're across this. Is it a limitation in the way in which you save the type sample?
Yep. We're just saving 1x images for now. Supporting Retina is definitely on the list.
Thanks for sharing.
Awesome work Justin, thanks!
You're welcome! Send me any feedback/issues/ideas.
It would be awesome (if possible) that you could write a text on your Sample page and all the fonts will adjust to that. So that, for example with branding, you get a nice overview. :)
I think this a lot! Thanks!
