But... but... I just learned how to make those meta balls!!!
More like: Siiiiick, now I can use some metaballs.
I wonder if I am alone in this... but I hated Basecamp. I thought it was super confusing and not intuitive at all.
I thought it felt... aged. Hopefully with all their focus they can improve it more.
Yeah, that's a good word for it. I only used it for a bit and I am sure it would be easier the more I used it. Thing is I just didn't want to dive in because it looked very aged and I heard so much about 37signals I was expecting something else.
Ya it was an amazing leap forward when it came out, but coming back to it for a project recently, I couldnt go back. It seemed aged, and behind in a sense. I think they saw that themselves and wanted to give it more attention and keep their place at the top of the PM list.
Are you guys talking about the old Basecamp Classic, or the new Basecamp?
Compared to what...? Breathing?
"Campfire will sell in the single digit millions, and Highrise will sell in the tens of millions, so serious inquires only please. "
Daaaaaaaammmmnnn!!!!
It amazes me how honest/blunt they can be at times.
Wanna buy Highrise for tens of millions of dollars? Email us!
They should open source Campfire.
"Campfire will sell in the single digit millions"
I stand by my previous sentiment.
This is awesome, great move, totally makes sense. Their new site is excellent.
Agree. I like the hand-drawn client logos the most.
Really? I'm confused about the homepage. It doesn't feel like a website. It's like someone designed a sales PDF and just translated it for the web. Those screengrabs at various sizes are super awkward.
The proposition is clear though, and no doubt it will convert well. It just feels a little un-loved (or rushed).
The rest of the site works nicely. I'm just not loving that homepage.
I like it because I think it's no more complicated than it needs to be, and it will serve its purpose exceedingly well.
Consider how their target customer will react to this page vs your typical saas website.
It's not the kind of page that will "wow" designers, but I think it's very well designed for it's purpose.
I feel like everything I know is wrong...
Itβs the logic step, good for them. This means better and more frequent improvements to Basecamp, which as a user is something I look forward to.
Plus, it's great news for Hipchat, and Slack, and hopefully for Campfire users too, which could finally have the attention it deserves.
Thought one of them was "we're bringing back the free single-user account!". Damnit.
Whoa! Those guys have balls! Well done!
Certainly a smart move. I love the illustrations on the new site. The hand-drawn client logos is a really nice touch. But I have to say the rest of the site layout feels a bit lazy to me : especially for 37--Basecamp.
The single column layout + screenshots combo is straightforward as it gets, which suits 37Signals pretty well, but I agree that some navigation on the page wouldn't hurt.
There is such a thing as too much scrolling.
Bold move. I respect their decision.
