Who else thinks $150 is a little steep for some screencasts and some books that currently sell for around $9?
Personally, I think you're better going to Udemy and picking up a full course over there for about $25.

On a serious note, I'm a big fan of both of these guys, but I'm not sure I see $100 (or $150 for that matter) worth of value here. I get 3 days worth of what's essentially just a How-To video. I feel like most people would be better served by buying 4 months of Treehouse?
It's not really how-to format. It's filming me explaining things to Josh and building an app.
Treehouse is great. Nothing bad to say about them. Execute iOS is designed for someone with no programming experience that wants to jump in. If you want to get tutorials on specific things, Treehouse is great.
We're going from 0 to a real app.
BUT you're inevitably skipping all the knowledge required to really learn how to build iOS apps on your own. If you have zero programming experience and watch this video, are you claiming that you would come out being even a novice level iOS dev?
I guess things like this bother me because whether intended or not, they are marketing schemes. "Hey", you say, "I know that everyone else says you need to spend months or years learning this stuff, but we will teach it to you in a few hours! Amazing!" It's disturbingly similar to ads for magic diet pills and workout plans (not even mentioning the price anchoring and 'order now and you also get' schemes in the video). While people will quickly and easily fall for the marketing, they never actually deliver real results. Because real results require real hard work, and there are no shortcuts.
I guess my point is if you are trying to get stronger, go to the gym and do difficult lifts like benches and deadlifts, day after day, week after week, and you will get stronger. If you are trying to learn iOS development, you need to sit down and really understand the fundamentals of programming and the Cocoa Touch API.
The video you are making here is not an educational video for people who are interested in learning iOS dev, because you cannot claim you will be able to teach them enough in such a short time. I feel like perhaps the people that would get the most value out of it are entry level/intermediate iOS devs who want to see Sam's style of putting things together.
I love Treehouse too. I used to work there and am one of the top points earners in the app. This is just my experience learning. It will be very different from how-to(s) in that I'm breaking things down to easily understand them for the book. The videos will be good and different than you're used to. No tutorials out there are an expert teaching a newbie. The different approach may help people like me:) Oh, and I'm not a fan of the herb. I'm just tired from rewiring my brain:)
I can relate to what everyone here are saying regarding the price and the learning volume in only 3 days, but as a consumer of what these two are doing (Cheddar, Execute book, Happy Monday) - I have lots of faith in them :)
Agree with the sentiment of everyone else in that it doesn't really show it's worth, especially when 'pre-sale' price is at $100.
The one thing that caught me, is when Josh said (or sam said?) he doesn't know how to program but then goes on to say that he knows Sams' code is clean. If a person doesn't know how to program how can they say someone's code is clean?
I think its a great idea to make short, digestible content, but I guess we'll see how this pans out.
I thought that was funny too. He said the developers he hired for Cheddar told him it was good.
We're spending a lot of time on this to make it really great. If we made it cheaper, we'd have to spend less time on it. Making so, so content is pointless, so we decided to make good stuff.
I totally agree with a price that represents the value. Somewhat tough to see the whole value of it though with that little teaser video. I'm sure as things progress, and more content comes out, we'll see that it's worth the shizzle.

I'm excited about this. Writing Objective-C is daunting to me, and I'm looking forward to a course led by people who's products I already love. It's all a trade-off... $100 is far from expensive when you consider that you're gaining immediate, actionable knowledge about how to create and sell your own products.
Doesn't seem like the best use of $100 if your goal is to learn to code for iOS. Tons of free resources and cheaper paid ones.
honestly can't tell if they're trolling or not. the sample clip is mostly just them giggling at each other.
This feels like a great idea. I've bought it even though I'm an experienced iOS dev, I'll pass my copy on to the first person who emails me ( see my site ) before it comes out. I want to encourage people doing things like this.

I've tried learning from sites like Treehouse, Lynda, etc. but I always find myself learning a bunch of junk that I don't need to know. I just wanted to make an app. Looks like this will be great!!
It turns out all the "junk you don't need to know" are actually important fundamentals of programming that you absolutely need to understand. Building an app is a lengthy and difficult process that requires understanding of a wide range of topics. While I know sometimes it's frustrating that you can't just start cranking things out immediately, I promise that if you are patient you will see the "things you don't need to know" click into place and become essential once you start the actual process of building the app.
I totally understand that, and I probably shouldn't of said "junk you don't need to know". I would just prefer to take a different approach to learning iOS rather than doing the "normal" way and stopping the course due to lack of interest as I have several times.
It does seem a little steep for what you get. We don't even know the depth of what they'll be covering and etc. I think a 15 - 30min sample of day one footage would help more buyers get a better idea of the content and pull the trigger if they liked. Right now it seems like a gamble.
My guesses is that you will know how to make the iOS App that Josh is making, and I have a feeling it's a relatively simple one.
However, when it comes to creating your own things, you might not know where to start because all you know to build is a Execute iOS App that does this and that.
We'll try to post some stuff today. Not sure I'll have time to edit it since we're shooting all day, but I'll try!
Just watched the updated videos, and nicely done. This is what it needed, the material is clear and the sample video shows exactly what to expect. Great job on being responsive to the questions and I wish you guys the best.
