Reminds me of when Uber began to facedown regulators and town halls, and went through a re-brand to become "more human".
Facebook must be putting on its game-face for regulators, and attempting to draft some halo-effect from Instagram for the Facebook brand.
Feels like it would have been an opportune time to rebrand like when Google became Alphabet.
But yeah I think you're spot on with the halo-effect.
ah so old trend of 'New logo = generic sans serif, lowercase' is now going to be 'New logo = generic sans serif, uppercase'.

They're trying to completely dissociate with their previous brand. Interested to see the impact if it is measurable.
