From the side the industrial design is amazing but from the back it's probably one of the ugliest monitors I've ever seen.

You need it, if you design for same displays. In other ways, buy cheap monitor, which your users have.

Maybe if your job is color-correcting film in Hollywood? Even then there are alternatives which cost about half. haha

I looked it up yesterday and most of the cinema-grade reference monitors are at least $10k and many over $20k.

For reference monitors you are right, but those are for video signal. You would still need something for your workstation for software interfaces. Then again, i'm a developer, so what do i know. ;)

Yeah but software is rarely going to be seen on such a fancy display anyway, so it is actually better to design on a more consumer monitor since you are going to see a representation of what most people will be seeing.

I want to know how you get all the dust out of it, are the holes vacuum-friendly?

You can buy iMac 27 5K for $1,799.00 and use it as a Mac Pro display.

It's a little insulting that Apple won't make a less pricey display for professional users who don't have quite the insane requirements this monitor satisfies.

To throw salt in the wound, they're still selling an LG display that isn't even the most up to date version that LG offers.

I had kind of decided to buy this based on the rumors (32", retina) but $5000!? not sure how I can justify it.

I was expecting a $999 version, $1499 tops. Though, when they said 8k I knew it would be high.

The VESA stand is $999. I bought mine for $39.

Still struggling with the decision, do I buy an iPhone or a Stand?
