THIS IS AWESOME !
I always find these "animate when element enters the viewport" style websites hard to navigate, because the animation triggers are always slower than how I scroll. So if the image doesn't load when I reach the trigger point, but does load half a second after, I feel irritated as I have to scroll back up to see the image.
The parallax scroll effect at the start of the page is fine, but use the animate-on-scroll effect sparingly.
It's great but it allocated 35GB's of my hard disk. :S (Firefox)
I don't know if there is something that's altering the momentum of scrolling or the animations are causing it to chug, but scrolling through this feels laborious.
This is really awesome. Warning though, I wanted to share with my team and saw some of it is kinda NSFW.
What kind of team do you have, that you worry about sharing this type of content? 0.o
We just went through Araki's work on our last Design review :P
The sex gif in the Eyes Wide Shut section made me reluctant, for sure.
Incredible content! But a bit over-the-top with the effects.
Sites like this always remind me of Frank Chimero's quote, “This is how I feel about so many of the fancy websites I see. ‘It is fascinating that you can do that, but it’s really not what a website is supposed to do.” via https://frankchimero.com/writing/the-webs-grain/
However, I enjoyed the simplified mobile experience greatly :)
I think the effects were justified here because they're literally trying to do something with a cinematic aesthetic. 99.9999% of other scenarios, tho, right there with ya.
Feel ya. Some of the animations are really smart but get lost in the plethora
The thing is, what "website is supposed to do" changed drastically and is still changing. Now, a website can have the same goal and rules as Performance Art and I think that's great.
