When key people leave they always say they have full trust in the people replacing them but things always change.

Ive is iconic and did a lot for Apple. In some ways we already see the effect of his departure in the product design choices in the last WWDC.

If I had to make a wild guess, Id say that the product design quality will go down and the interaction design quality will go up.

    Thoughts? Other useless guesses?

I loved the latest apple designs, personally. It sounds like Apple will be the firm's biggest client, but he'll also be able to work on passion projects.

I think the whole Apple arrangement will be on a consultation level and involve products that he has already started with them. It might even be a complete lie and put out there to not spook people.

My guess would be a shift into architecture. Designing a prestigious art gallery or another corporate HQ.

Apple works so far ahead that you will likely not start noticing non-Ive trends for another 5 years at least.

It's kind of strange that he's not being replaced and it doesn't seem like they plan to replace him. Design reports to Operations now, which could lead to massive changes.

The new Apple products will have been in the design phase for years, it's likely Ive had a big role in products we'll see for the next few years.
