If it's for short clips, I'd recommend Licecap. I use it a lot for demoing/documenting UI work. http://www.cockos.com/licecap/
It may not look like much, but it's a great app that let's you record animated GIFs.

  I downloaded the mac version but I keep getting a "Cant be opened because its form an unidentified developer"

    Yeah, you have to change the OSX setting in System Preferences > Security & Privacy > General under "Allow Applications downloaded from:"

        OR you can just right-click and open, it bypasses the security feature and let's you open it.
