I guess I'm going to have to disagree. I don't think it's necessary to explain why you downvoted something. I think this speaks to the sensitivity around it. Upvoting is great, but then when something is downvoted, it's all like, whoa, why didn't they like this? Thank you for saying an explanation is something you WANT to happen, because that contradicts the subject line of your post, where you state what SHOULD happen.

I'm not saying it should be mandatory. But in a critique or even a human to human conversation you would never say "I disagree" and not explain yourself. I think it's only fair for people to have opinions, but if someone disagrees I want to hear the other side of it.
& No I don't think upvotes need explaining, you are upvoting a specific comment or post because you agree or think others should see it as well. If you have something to add on then yes, by all means respond.
I'm here to learn from others not bash people's opinions.
