I think the bigger point here that a lot of pundits are missing out on is the fact that this particular iPad is really geared to compete in the Education market. Chromebooks have picked up major steam in a segment Apple has been traditionally known to hold well.

...and with the eventual shipment of the rumored 10.5-Inch bezzel-less iPad (2018?), Apple's typical 'good, better, best' will be fully in tow.

Or they release a low cost iPad to counter the ever declining iPad sales.

Maybe...? Both those ideas could go hand in hand too. The numbers are all relative, especially to the massive amount of iPhones sold, but iPads did see a little uptick in Q1 2017.

Maybe the other important talking point here is that the tablet market as it looks today is being redefined. Walt Mossberg had some interesting points on hardware and specifically software in a recent article, Mossberg: The PC is being redefined

It could be but Apple already has an education program, if they were targeting that sector of the market their marketing material would have hinted as such.

It's not just the ipad though, the whole tablet market (even android) is having lucklustre sales, which is why everyone (including Microsoft, Samsung, Google ) is going for the tablet/laptop hybrid.

.. Mossberg is a bit of an Apple fanboy, he's the last person I'll go to for objective analysis about Apple products. The last line of hos post of oozing Apply fanboysm; " ...And it feels like an opportunity only Apple can seize."
