I haven't tried it so I'm just speculating, but a square monitor sounds like a pretty bad idea - instead of moving your head left and right, you have to move it up or down, or move your eyes and see it at a less than optimal angle.
Also, a lot of content is either thin and tall (websites, documents) or wide (movies).
Are there any advantages to it I'm missing?
I haven't tried it yet, either, but as I am mainly working in branding / brand/logo/corporate design (and symbols/icons), a square ratio does not sound that bad at all.
