I don't know about the fonts, but one trick works good for me – I use a blue background and white text and lines. This makes the wireframes look like a blueprint although this one time client said that we should keep the blue background
A nod to blueprints is a really cool idea--everyone knows what they look like, and they know they're just a "plan". Plus it shows the designer's role as more "architect" and less "interior designer"...
