Yep! I use them for quite a few sites - beats GitHub Pages by a mile (especially since I don't use Jekyll).
You can host any static site with GitHub pages, not just Jekyll
Yep, it's just easier for me on Netlify because it automates my build process like GitHub does for Jekyll sites. It has a lot of other benefits too, namely SSL support on custom domains.
