Hello Matt, the timer was not meant to time the sprint itself, but the several small activities that happen through the process. For instance there is a dynamic called Crazy 8's, where the group has 5 minutes to create 8 variations of an idea, this type of scenario is where we apply the timer to create a sense of urgency to incite the group (we, sometimes, give an extra 5 minutes so it is not so disappointing for clients that can't get many variations out of it).
