    Silicon Valley is always right on the verge of annoying me with some of their tech details, but I understand that they have to keep it amusing for everyone, not just us startup geeks.

    It really isn't clear to me what the fuck PiedPiper is supposed to be based on this UI? A Dropbox competitor with faster uploading and downloading due to amazing compression? That's it?

    It seems like the core algorithm being licensed out to the services and people that could benefit from improved compression would be the most effective way of getting it out into the world. You don't even need a UI for that.

    Whatever, it's a TV show, but this strikes me as equally as uninspiring as the box in the server farm.

      The UI is intentionally bad—that's the joke, just like their poor business decisions.

        I get that, I'm talking more about the purpose of the web app. I thought they were a compression company, not a storage company.

          They're CloudConvert. But for compression. Plus you want to host that video somewhere for that everywhere access, right? Plus the server component for the machine learning so the compression gets better? Look, it's beta, it's not even 1.0 and it's not a hit immediately out of the gate – sounds about right to me.
