I've seen a lot of comments about your "long form writing", especially in regards to this tool. I've really enjoyed your writing and it's a delight to sit down, settle in and read something of real substance. Lots of long articles on Medium but that's mostly advertorial, beating on a dead horse or otherwise simply long form Twitter.

It depends what the point of the article was. If it was just to unveil this tool, then yes, it should have been shorter and more direct. But if it's a deeper, inquisitive look into a subject accompanied by a proposed solution, then the current essay/research paper-y format is perfect. I think it's a little dismissive and sad that so many just want to scroll quickly and get the reward without anything else. The poster above would likely not read the rest of the article even if the product announcement was made in the intro...:(

    Keep doing what you're doing.

Not everyone wants the backstory. I certainly didn't need it to understand what the tool does or what the overarching concept is/promises to be.

Backstory is fine but it should always be optional, never required. The general concept should be clear before launching into exposition regardless.
